I saved $64.85 tonight with the Grocery Game!

I love to shop, but I love a good bargain even more!

I've been doing the
Grocery Game for awhile now and I'm amazed each week as we keep saving more and more on our grocery bill.

I first heard of the Grocery Game when it was featured by our local news station. Basically, it's a weekly list of the lowest-priced products at your supermarket matched with manufacturers' coupons and specials -- advertised and unadvertised.

Here's a pic of "the list" along with this week's receipt - we saved $64.85 :)

The key is to stockpile - buy things when they are on sale and stock the pantry and freezer. After a few weeks, I had a nice supply of groceries. Also, it helps to plan a menu for the week based on the weekly specials. So, if chicken and asparagus are on sale, then we'll definitely be eating that for one of our meals.

Here's my shopping for this week. I went to Winn Dixie, spent $71.45 and saved $64.85 - that's saving 47 %. Yay! I usually spend about $45 - $50 and save as much. However, this past week, I was way behind on my grocery shopping, so I had to spend a bit more.

I bought nearly 5 lbs of boneless chicken breast ($2.00/lb), diapers ($6.99), Tide ($4.99), dish soap, four boxes of cereal ($1.50 each), two bags of Romaine ($1.70 each), two bags of shredded cheese ($2 each), two jars of lite mayo ($1.90 each) just to name a few of my bargains .

I always love when the cashier tells me how much I've saved. A couple of times, I've had them ask me, "How did you do that?" :) Big Daddy is my biggest fan, though. He always meets me at the door and gets a big kick out of the receipt.

The Grocery Game offers a free 4-week trial, so I was able to try it with no strings attached. Check out their website and see what stores are featured in your area.

More on using coupons with the Grocery Game in another post!

P.S. Here's a pic of Bitty Baby as the family straight man. She LOVES these tiger glasses - that's our little LSU tiger! She always looks so serious when she wears these and we all just can't help but crack up!

  1. Wonderful photo! Love it!

I still don't see how you get by with such a small amount of groceries. I clearly buy too much!

  2. Very impressive - does it take you long to do coupons each week? How do you organize them?

  3. It seems like a smaller amount because I'm able to pull things out of my stockpile. That''s the key!

Re: coupons. Check out my other post on the Grocery Game. I put a few things about coupons that work for me :)
