Everyday is Mother's Day in New Orleans

We had a great weekend, and a busy one!

The girls and I kicked off the weekend with a trip to the library. This was the first time that we've had a chance to use our new Sit-N-Stand stroller. I've been going back and forth about whether or not to buy one, but after a few humbling episodes of Sister running away from me in stores and me following and screaming after her, I thought the time had come to pick one up.

God Bless whoever invented the Sit-N-Stand! It's life-changing :) Bitty Baby can sit in the front and Sister can either sit or stand in the back, with a safety belt on, I might add. I'm absolutely convinced that another Mama invented this. (Among other great kid things - like snack traps :) ).

Sweet Sisters

Saturday, Big Daddy and I had an afternoon date and saw my sister, niece and nephew in our local production of the "King and I." It was great! My sister played Anna, the lead, and we are all so proud of her. God has blessed her with a beautiful singing voice and she did such a great job. My niece and nephew played two of the king's children and we had so much fun seeing them on stage, too.

Sunday, we didn't make church because we headed to New Orleans to pick up my brother-in-law and his fiance. They have been on vacation with my in-laws and needed a ride back to town. So, we decided to make a daytrip out of it. We all had lunch at Mother's and it was so good! When we walked in, the guy at the door welcomed us and told me, "Sit down and have your husband order for you because every day is Mother's Day at Mother's." And, that's just what Big Daddy did. I loved it!

When in Rome (or when in New Orleans), I love to eat whatever's on the menu that makes a place famous. So, at Mother's I had a debris po-boy and Big Daddy ordered a Ferdi. The Debris is my favorite - it's the shredded roast beef that falls into the gravy during cooking, then it's scooped up and put on the perfect French bread, a little bitty bit hard on the outside, but soft on the inside. I ordered it dressed, which to me, makes it! Dressed comes with cabbage, pickles, mayo, and creole mustard. And, yes, I ate all of it! It was Creole heaven!

(BTW, the Ferdi is a Debris with ham added to it.)

On the way back, we ran a quick errand and the guys got Cafe Du Monde to go. I was stuffed, so I just watched everyone enjoy their beignets and coffee.

The best thing about beignets, to me, is the powdered sugar. There is always a ton, with plenty of it left over in the bottom of the bag. I love how everyone gets sugar all over their faces while they eat beignets. It's like being a kid again :).

  1. Oh my gosh how your sister's daughter looks like your mom!!! Just like her!

My mom went to see King and I too knowing your sister was the lead. She said it was awesome. Please pass that along.

    Love these pics and stories!
